We
carefully select all the wood for Belgarth Bodhrans for both quality
and grain pattern. This wood is then cut, prepared and steam
bent in our workshop.
Each
frame is made up of two layers of this steambent ash which are glued
together for strength and stability.
The
finished frame is then ready for decoration,
something that is very often dictated by the grain of the wood.
At
this stage, the goatskin "head", which has been processed
on site, is cut and carefully fitted to complete the manufacture
of the bodhran.
As
we mention elsewhere on this site, all our bodhrans can be fitted
with a tuning system. This consists of
an adjustable wooden ring which is moved against the skin using
tensioning screws in wooden blocks fixed inside the frame.
